PRESENT STUDENTS AMERICAN FLAGS Pat Schneider and Colleen Anderson, members of the Council Oak Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, presented area second grade students American Flags and holders recently as part of a Veterans Day observance. Flags were also presented to Chase County Elementary School by other DAR members.

American Legion Post 121 extends holiday kindness to Topeka VA

Each Christmas season, Frederick Phillips American Legion Post 121 in Council Grove adopts the inpatient PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) ward at the Topeka Veterans Administration, bringing warmth and generosity to veterans in need. The Post, led by Commander Rebecca Elias, fills Christmas stockings, one for each veteran, with a variety of thoughtful items including game books, socks, travel-sized hygiene products, baked goods, and even a pizza gift certificate for New Year’s Eve.

Recount clarifies voter intent: McDonald certified as Mayor

A detailed recount of the Council Grove mayoral race—conducted at the request of candidate Ryan McDonald—reversed the initial tie reported on November 10 and confirmed McDonald as the winner by one vote. The Morris County Election Board met Thursday to review and certify the recount results. The explanation of the process and the findings were presented primarily by Chelsey Schmidt, Morris County Clerk and Election Officer. Also present in official capacities were County Commissioners and Election Board members Wayne Kohler, Dave Fox, and Jim Barber, along with County Counselor William Kasse-baum.

TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA Grace Bolieu, a student at Council Grove Junior Senior High School, has been accepted to study music at the Australian Institute of Music beginning in the fall of 2026. Although the acceptance is an exceptional opportunity and a significant honor, the Council Grove Republican has also learned that the path to attending will come with substantial financial requirements, including passports and airfare for Grace and her parents, visa costs, and documentation showing she has a full year of living expenses secured before entering the country.
