RETIREMENT RECEPTION -- A steady stream of well-wishers attended the Morris County Hospital and Clinic “come and go” retirement reception for Dr

Abby Gettinger, who joined the K-State Research and Extension team in Morris and Chase Counties in May, was the program at Wednesday’s Council Grove Rotary Club.

Many in the area have no clue that Randy Shaw and I are stepbrother and sister. Our parents’ marriage only lasted two years and as youth, we went from living in a blended family house to being caught up in an abrupt separation. We were not able to continue our “last” conversation for decades until we reconnected about fifteen years ago. Randy was in Arizona at the time, and I was in Colorado. Now we are both back in Council Grove, having come full circle in our lives. We still refer to each other as brother or sister because we believe we are “family.” We have a lot of catching up to do and usually try to have lunch once a month. In the process, I have learned a lot of interesting things about Randy that I believe area residents would find interesting both about him and our community.
