Council Grove To Receive $855,800, Strong City $780,000

The Flint Hills cities of Council Grove and Strong City reaped huge awards Thursday when Governor Laura Kelly announced $28.5 million has been awarded for 32 Transportation Alternatives (TA) program projects across Kansas for Fiscal Year 2023-24. Governor Kelly made the announcement from Manhattan Catholic Schools, a former recipient of a Safe Routes to School grant. Council Grove was awarded $855,800 for Safe Routes to School – Priority 1 Improvements. Strong City received $780,000 for its Cottonwood Street – Streetscape project.

Yesterday we ran the first installment of Council Grove Women Business Owners. We found that the percentage of women owned businesses is higher than the state average of 34.8%. After checking multiple sources, I estimate the Council Grove average to be 37.33%. Women business owners responded to three questions which include, “Where do you get your “can do” attitude? as well as “What prompted you to go into business? and “What advice do you have for another woman who is considering starting a business?
