The Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commission will hold its first public meeting of 2026 on Thursday, January 8, at the Territory Ballroom in Council Grove. The meeting will begin at noon and continue until all agenda items are addressed.
Rob Kraus, of Talmage, captured first place in Bowl Bash – Segment 2 of the Council Grove Republican’s football contest by correctly selecting 12 of the 15 bowl game winners for the games that ran from December 23 through December 27. Kraus earned a $25 gift certificate, redeemable at any of the contest sponsors.
Soybeans are the largest agricultural export in the United States and one of the most important crops grown in Kansas. The legume covers more than 81 million acres nationwide— about 10 percent of all U.S. farmland—and more than 40 percent of the crop is exported overseas, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Commissioners David Fox, Jim Barber, and Wayne Kohler were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
First Baptist Church of Council Grove marked the Christmas season with a wide-reaching community meal that provided food and fellowship to nearly 300 people, reflecting the church’s ongoing commitment to practical outreach in Council Grove and the surrounding area.
