USD 284 has expanded its transportation fleet with the purchase of a new coach-style activity bus. The new bus is designed to better serve students and staff traveling to activities, competitions and events—particularly those requiring longer trips. Many USD 284 activity routes range from 1.5 to 2.5 hours one way, making comfort and reliability key considerations.
A growing partnership between staff at the Chase County Detention Center and a newly formed nonprofit organization is providing practical support and added human connection for detainees housed at the facility, including those held under federal immigration contracts.
The Young Guest House, one of Council Grove’s most recognizable historic homes, was nearly lost to demolition. Its preservation was not the result of a long-term business plan or a formal historic campaign, but rather a last-minute decision driven by instinct, attachment to place, and a belief that some buildings are simply too important to lose.
