THE MARK OF A CENTURY -- A tree at the south entrance to the Neosho Riverwalk will be removed by the City of Council Grove this week, due to a large split in the center of the tree. “The City of Council Grove, unfortunately, will be removing the 100-year-old Cottonwood tree at the entrance to the Riverwalk starting on Wednesday,” said City Administrator Nick Jones. “The Cottonwood has started to split on both side, creating safety concerns. The city plans on replanting a tree in its place at a future date.” Jones added that he had spoken to local historian Ken McClintock, who informed him that despite being old, the tree was not historic.
Council Grove High School has announced guidelines and procedure for the Class of 2020 graduation ceremony, which is to be held on July 18 at 3 p.m. The ceremony will be held at Braves Gym and social distancing, as well as a variety of other methods will be utilized.
