Canning Creek Schoolhouse Served More Residents As A Church

Photo and summary, published as written, by Della Campbell Boyer, from the Archives of the Morris County Historical Society Editor’s note: We learned about the location of Canning Creek School but the only information we have about Canning Creek School existing as a school is from Homer Heaton of Wilsey, who told us he went to school there in 1946-1947 when he was 6 or 7 years old. He remembers that the school only had 6-7 students. He left after his first year and attended Upper Big John School east of Council Grove. The church service history contained within is historical and interesting. The brick building was located 5 miles west of Council Grove and 1 ¼ mile north.
