The 2025 Morris County Fair celebrated the creativity and skill of local 4-H members during the annual Fashion Revue, held Tuesday, July 22. Participants in the Sewing and Textile Design and Shopping in Style projects modeled their work and selections before judges and the public, earning recognition through purple and blue ribbon awards as well as champion titles.
Council Grove is preparing to bury two 100-year time capsules at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19. They are brimming with comments from Council Grove residents and reminders of what life is like for residents in 2025. The location will be below the wall containing bronze plaques, which is adjacent to the Council Oak Pavillion.
The opening day headcount for USD 417 on Thursday showed a decline of 30 students compared to last year. A total of 726 students were recorded for the 2025–2026 school year, down from 756 on opening day in 2024.
Alma will once again welcome hundreds of classic and custom vehicles for its annual summer celebration, Hot Alma Nights, on Saturday, Aug. 16. The event, now in its 17th year, has grown from just 50 entries in its inaugural year to nearly 500 cars, trucks, and motorcycles in recent years. Activities run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3rd and Ohio Street in Alma. Following the day’s show, participants will depart at 5 p.m. for a scenic cruise through the Flint Hills. In addition to the vehicles on display, attendees can enjoy a variety of vendor booths.
According to Sports in Kansas, Council Grove begins the 2025 football season with first-year head coach Derron Reddick, who brings 12 years of coaching experience and spent the previous five seasons as the Braves’ defensive coordinator. Reddick was named the Sports in Kansas Small Classes Assistant Coach of the Year last fall for his work in that role.
