A two-year-old girl and her father escaped serious injury July 13 in a U.S. 77 accident involving a pickup truck and travel trailer. Elliott N. Johannes was secured in a car seat when the northbound 1995 Ford F150 pickup operated by Samuel I. Johannes, 22, Salina, overturned approximately 9 miles north of Herington. The location is in Morris County. Johannes reported a strong gust of wind caused the trailer to tip to the east, and he overcorrected. This caused the trailer to flip onto its side, partially blocking the highway. The pickup struck a guardrail and rolled onto its top in the east ditch. Johannes was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the 6:09 p.m. mishap. He and his daughter were treated at the scene. Deputy Alex Wooden of the Morris County Sheriff’s Department was the investigating officer. The pickup and trailer were removed from the scene by an area wrecker services.
