Council Approves Fire Equipment Spending, Sales Tax Grant
The Council Grove City Council approved spending of $8,100 for two pieces of fire equipment on Tuesday night following a recommendation from the Police and Fire Committee. The equipment is used to operate the jaws of life and will be purchased from Okie Extrication in El Reno, Oklahoma. City Administrator Nick Jones added that he would meet with Chief Chris Blackledge to work on an equipment replacement schedule. The Police and Fire Committee also recommended the appointment of Sean Gooding and Brian Brown as Volunteer Firefighters. The recommendations were approved, with appointment contingent on the pair passing background checks, physicals and drug and alcohol screenings.
Based upon a recommendation by the Sales Tax Grant Committee, the council approved a Sales Tax Grant of $15,759, the remainder of fourth quarter Sales Tax money, to the 4th of July Committee. Jones noted that one application for a grant was withdrawn and another was not recommended for grant funding by the committee.
