Council Approves Closure Of Pool For Summer; Will Seek CARES Act Grant For Local Businesses
Tuesday’s meeting of the Council Grove City Council opened with an update on Parks and Recreation activities from Recreation Director Justin Carlson. Carlson stated that he is working on options for baseball and softball training camps and clinics should the phased re-opening plan allow for restrictions on activities to loosen. Carlson said that he has contacted former high school baseball and softball players and coaches to return to the community to lead these camps, as well as college players and coaches. Carlson said the response has been very positive from those he has contacted about coaching these camps. Carlson also stated that his assistant, Amy Lif, has been working on ideas for activities that aren’t competitive sports related, in order to give a variety of options to local youth.
City Administrator Nick Jones stated that playground areas can be re-opened by Memorial Day weekend as part of the phased re-opening plans and signs would be placed near the equipment that will inform local residents about social distancing and safety precautions.
