Board Approves Spectators For Activities, Discusses ACT, Post-Secondary Data
Following a lengthy discussion and several proposed resolutions, the USD 417 Board of Education voted on Monday to approve spectators at USD 417 activities. The district will follow KSHSAA guidelines, which allow up to two parents or legal guardians per family at district activities. Superintendent Aron Dody reiterated that this policy allowed for only two parent/guardian spectators maximum per family, regardless of whether or not the family had multiple athletes participating and that the spectators must be parents or legal guardians. The board approved of these guidelines through February 12 and will revisit the matter at the February 8 meeting to further determine district policy. Dody also noted that masks had to be worn at all district activities and that social distancing guidelines would need to be followed.
Curriculum Director Kelly Gentry presented the board with ACT and post-secondary data for the class of 2020 and the class of 2018. ACT composite averages for the class of 2020 were nearly two points lower than the Kansas composite average score, with Gentry noting that Kansas test results had an overall drop and that the district was “not shocked” by the results. Regarding post-secondary data for the class of 2018 showed an effective rate of 46% of the class receiving post-secondary degrees or certificates following high school graduation or earning an industry recognized certification while in high school. The effective rate for the class of 2017 was 62%.
