Helping our youth and communities understand food insecurity and the barriers that exist in accessing healthy food is the motivation behind the $28,965 Hunger Free Kansas Mini-Grant recently awarded to the K-State Research & Extension Flint Hills District.
The Council Grove Senior Center celebrated its 50 years of serving the community with a special Pizza Hut lunch and program on Monday. The event paid special recognition to current and former volunteers. A large crowd was in attendance for the affair.
The Pancake Feed and Spring Flea Market held on April 5 at The Event Center in Dwight was a success, raising $1,488 to benefit the Dwight Public Library at 616 Main Street. Organized by Jon and Amy Naaf, the fundraiser was supported by a Thrivent Action Team grant to help cover food expenses, item donations from library staff, and the availability of a local indoor venue.
The Council Grove Braves split a doubleheader on the road Monday against Trinity Academy, winning the first game 13-10 before falling 11-2 in the nightcap.
