Finally . . . federal hiring freeze exemption granted for Council Grove Lake, as floodwaters rise

In a welcome development for the Council Grove area, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has received an exemption to the federal hiring freeze—specifically for Council Grove Lake—allowing the long-awaited seasonal and permanent staff positions to move forward. The news was shared on Tuesday afternoon by Gary Kepley, Deputy OPM for the Kansas Area of the Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District.

Three Kansas country artists to kick off Washunga Nights 2025

Council Grove will be alive with music on Friday, June 20, as Washunga Nights 2025 opens with a strong lineup of country artists—all with Kansas roots and national recognition. Concerts will take place at the Neosho Riverwalk Amphitheater and can be accessed with a Washunga Nights wristband, good for both nights of live entertainment.
