Exciting New Beginnings: USD 417 Launches Innovative Programs for 2025-26 As students and staff return to classrooms across Morris County, USD 417 is proud to introduce several programs designed to enhance learning, support student success, and prepare our young people for bright futures.
At the Trail Days Historic Site in Council Grove, Kansas, history comes alive through a simple oneroom building that tells the story of rural education and the resilience of community. The Pioneer Field School, located at 803 W. Main, has been painstakingly refurbished and preserved under the guidance of curator Shirley McClintock. More than just a structure, the school represents a way of life, a memory of children’s laughter, and a testament to the faith and determination that made its restoration possible.
Concerns about mold in the Morris County Courthouse were the focus of discussion at Tuesday’s Morris County Commission meeting. The issue has resurfaced as employees in the lower level of the building reported seeing new mold spots and questioning whether the county was making the matter a priority.

100-YEAR TIME CAPSULES BURIED -- On Tuesday, in-between storms, the two 100-year 36” long time capsules were buried near the Council Oak pavilion. A bronze marker will be added to mark the spot for future generations. Setting the capsules (right photo) is the capsule coordinator and councilman Nathan Adams. After placing the capsules, the city crews promptly arrived and closed the 2 1/2’ hole before the next storm.
