The 2026 Council Grove Junior High Spelling Bee was held on January 20, at 1 p.m. at the Council Grove Jr/Sr High School Auditorium. Participants went 16 rounds.
Due to the incoming winter storm, the Flint Hills League Shootout schedule has been adjusted. Both the girls and boys teams will now play on Thursday, January 22. The girls game is scheduled for 12 p.m., followed by the boys game at 1:30 p.m. Games originally scheduled for Saturday have been moved to Friday.
Council Grove Rotarian and City Mayor Ryan McDonald gave a presentation on Council Grove’s Tree City USA status and the results of a recent urban tree inventory during the Rotary Club’s Wednesday meeting.
The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at 9 a.m. Commissioners David Fox, Jim Barber, and Wayne Kohler were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
The Morris County Conservation District has presented the 2025 Conservation Bankers Award to Douglas Diekmann of Northwest Morris County.
