The Morris County Commissioner meeting was called to order on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 9 a.m. Commissioners David Fox, Jim Barber, and Wayne Kohler were present. Bill Kassebaum, County Counselor, and Chelsey Schmidt, County Clerk, were present.
White City -- Greater Morris County Development Corporation, in association with the NetWork Kansas E-Community Partnership, hosted the annual Morris County YEC Competition on Wednesday, March 4, at White City Schools, White City, Kansas. Eleven individuals and seven teams representing Hope and White City School presented their business concepts with a written business plan, presentations to judges, and a tabletop display.

What struck me most about the discussion was how frequently legislators referred to it as the “Hays Water Bill”, a shorthand that underscores its origins in addressing the long-standing water needs of the city of Hays and its proposed transfer from the R9 Ranch in Edwards County. Yet, this narrow framing risks overlooking the bill’s much broader scope.
