I was honored to be invited to a surprise dinner party for Kelley Judd’s friend Jill, held at the Hays House Saturday evening. The purpose of the event was to surprise Jill and welcome her to Council Grove, as she was planning to move here. Guests were the ones surprised when Kelley and Jill arrived and announced they were getting married right then! Even the staff at the historic restaurant was unaware of what was happening until shortly before the event occurred. The enclosed account is newsworthy because the two were married twice at the Hays House and only in an amazing community like Council Grove would a clerk at Ray’s Apple Market have known Charlie and Helen Judd, who passed away in 2006 and 2017, respectively, and known who and where Kelley lived. The whole evening was fun and unusual in that Kelley and Jill served their guests dinner and beverages, like they used to do together 47 years ago. Jan Sciacca, Publisher.
