Roland Russell “Rus” Coover

Roland Russell “Rus” Coover, 77, of Westfield, IN passed away on March 21, 2024.

Rus was a New Year’s baby, born 1/1/1947 in Herington, Kansas and spent his childhood in Wilsey, KS. His parents, who preceded him in death were Roland M. Coover and Donna Jean Carl. He graduated from Wilsey High School in 1964 and went to Kansas State University. In 1968, he graduated with a degree in Business Administration/Marketing/ Economics.

Rus served in the Army after graduation and was proud to be a Veteran. Rus’s career in the homebuilding and real estate business spanned 51 years. In 2012, Rus joined the F.C. Tucker Team and loved working for them. He was very proud to work for Indiana’s premier real estate company.

Rus loved music and was very musically-inclined–he even played in a couple of different bands during his younger days. He could play the piano by ear, as well as the guitar and accordion. Blues was his favorite genre and he spent many hours listening to Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Some of Rus’s other favorite things were watching sports–especially Kansas State and his beloved Denver Broncos, reading books, watching documentaries, using his snowblower to clear his neighbors driveways and sidewalks and playing with his two miniature schnauzers–Cabo and Cozzi, who he referred to as “The Boys.”

Rus was a father and is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Marc Papier and grandson, Aden. Rus was very proud of Felicia’s college education at the University of Georgia. He took great pride when he presented her with the final payment he made, enabling her to be debt free.

Rus was also survived by his ex-spouse and good friend, Shelley Coover. The two continued to co-parent their schnauzer boys and deeply admired each other through Rus’s final moments.

A summer celebration of life will be held with date and time announced at another time.
