Cold War history lies just miles from Council Grove

Forbes Atlas Missile Site S-5 located two miles west and three miles north of Bushong was one of 107 nationwide missile sites during the Cold War. Kansas with 21 sites, led the nation in the number of sites for the nation’s defense program.
